The finished quality of the work is not as high as I would have liked it to be. Although

it is a quick job on Photoshop, it also take a lot of work before Photoshop, such as

taking the actual photos.

Although the quality is acceptable, it is not amazing. The edges are fairly

rough, even when you change the edge smoothness. It also makes certain parts of

the image hard to see. This can be seen in the third image on the badge, which I

had to rotoscope due to the fact when I used the filter effects it made the badge just

fade in to a solid circle of orange.

The resources required include a camera, which some people may not have, and

Photoshop, which many people cannot access easily, meaning this technique is

fairly specialist.

The technique is similar to other graphic novels which have been published, but not

to children’s novels. This means that if a child is used to reading graphic novels it

will appeal to the target audience of children up to the age of 12, but if they are used

to children's novels, then this effect will not be suitable for the target audience.

I believe the quality of the illustration is very much dependant on the person who is

drawing. This means that the quality varies. In my case, it is a very low quality due

to the fact that I cannot draw very well, but if a professional did it, it would look a lot

better then mine does.

Drawing each individual frame for a graphic novel is also very time

consuming, meaning that it will take a very long time to make each frame to a good

standard.

This method is used in both graphic novels and children's novels due to the fact it

can either be incredibly simple, or very complex.

It suits the target audience because the style can be very varied meaning it can be

suited to children as well as older people.

The resources required are also very simple, they are as simple as paper and pens.

The quality of the image is usually very good if the camera is modern and good

quality which makes it easy to make high quality photographs.

It is usually a fairly quick process, but can take a while to get a perfect photograph.

The style is often used for children's novels instead of graphic novels due to the fact

that the image can be used to fill a large space such as a hole page in a children's

novel. It can also be used for a large range of age ranges, due to the fact

photographs can be used to take simple still images of literally anything which is

visible, so any photo can be taken to match which ever age it needs to suit.

The resources require a digital camera, or even a mobile phone camera, meaning

that many people will be able to take a photograph. It also requires a computer to

upload the photo to.

The quality of rotoscoping is very high but is very time consuming. It can make a

very unique and realistic comic book style photograph. It does take a long time to do

and can be fairly hard.

This would usually be used in graphic novels as well as children’s novels due to its

cartoon like style, it can look childish, or complex.

Its audience can be both young or old, but it can be very useful for the age range we

are working with which is under 12 due to the simplicity of it.

The resources required are fairly specialist due to the fact that Photoshop is needed

to do this technique.

Overall Evaluation

I feel that the experiment went fairly well, and I have decided that I might use Comic

Book Styled images in my graphic novel. I feel that illustration would not be a good

idea due to the fact that I am not very good at drawing which means my graphic

novel would not be done to the standard I would want it to be done, so I will

definitely not be using this.

I feel if I practised illustration a bit more I could improve the quality of them. I could

watch tutorials on how to draw to improve the quality of my drawing, and practise a

lot more to improve on the technique.

I also feel that rotoscoping would be too complicated for a graphic novel due to the

fact it takes a very long time to do, and I would have to do an awful lot of it to get

through around 40 slides. I think that I would not be able to do this amount of work

in the short space of time, and even if I could, it would not be as high a quality as I

would like it to be. Therefore I will not be using this.

You can use this space for any further reflections on your work.
