Style and type of Documentary:For the style of our documentary my group has chosen to produce an informal documentary that will be about bowling. We chose this because the target audience we are aiming to attract is younger and less mature, So we thought that by making our documentary informal this will help attract the audience we want and also keep it interesting and fun. The type of documentary is a mixed documentary, this is because we wanted a mix of interviews and think that this will work the best for our final product.

Topic:Our topic is bowling. The things we will be talking about in the documentary is how it appeals to the younger generations and audience and also a lot about the history of bowling. Another thing we will be speaking about is why people actually go bowling and is it more of a sport or a social activity.

Target Audience:

Our main target audience will be between the ages of 16-30 and also for male or female. The main reason for this is that we found bowling to be a lot of a younger generation’s sport/social activity and felt that this would be the right age to get the viewers that we would need.

Channel and Scheduling:The channel that we thought would work well was Channel 4. This was because it attracts the younger people of the public. With having done some research it is established that channel 4 has the same target audience that we have picked so this would be the best to publish our bowling documentary on to make sure we get the most viewers we possibly could. The time we would like our documentary to show is between 6pm and 9pm. This is because we thought that this is most likely the time our target audience would tune in as its usually after school time and also after dinner time for most people, it is also prime time for our target audience. The time we eventually came up with was 7PM as we thought this would be the best time to screen our documentary. This will make our programme come between Hollyoaks and the Channel 4 news and will already have attracted a wide audience range from both of them programmes. The exact date our documentary will be aired is Thursday 9th January 2012 and will run for 27 minutes approximately and this is including advert breaks.

Narrative a Structure:The opening of our “Roll with it” documentary will be an open documentary. This will be because we think that this will help it be more affective to the audience and help them not get lost while watching it, this will also let the audience left making their own conclusion instead giving them a closed conclusion. We also decided that linear would be best for our documentary as it will follow chronological order.

Secondary Research:

This research will be based on the history of bowling including how it came over from America to the UK, how it was used to socialise and how today its still used to socialise and when it first started. We will be using history’s bowling videos as archive material, One of the main events we will use will be the bowling league from the 1960’s and also an old article we found that tells you about the victory of ten pin bowling. The filming we will be doing will be of posters and pictures within the Newbrighton Riverside Bowling alley that feature the ten pin bowling. We will be using some archive material of the bowling scene in Grease 2 to help make it more interesting and also relative music.

Primary Research:We would like to interview the manager of the bowling alley, and so we will get in touch with the Newbrighton Riverside bowling alley to see if this is possible as this would work great in our documentary. We would also like to get interviews from the technician’s league members and general staff. The mis-en-scene will be within the bowling alley which will feature the eating area, back of the machine’s, laser quest room, bowling lanes and the arcade.
