Raster Graphics

• Most images used are raster graphics. They can be scaled to different sizes without loosing quality in the picture. Theses are made up of bitmaps. These are a graphic made up of lots of pixels. Each square has a set amount of pixels which means the bitmapped images can become distorted.

Vector Graphics

• Vector Graphics are typically used for logos. This is because they can be sized from a website to a billboard with no distortion. Vector graphics are made up of paths and strokes.

JPEGStands For

Used For/Example It is one of the most commonly used format of saving an image and it is used on social media and emails.

Advantage They are universal and can be viewed or sent in pretty much any way for example, via social media, email text message ect. They are very small files so they do not take up a lot of storage. It is good for quickly showing people an image as it can be viewed anywhere.

Disadvantage Jpegs can loose quality when it is reopened as it is getting compressed as you close it and it has to the be recompressed when opened. It also saves it as an image so if you have been editing it will not save things such as layers on Photoshop.

TIFFStands For

Used For/Example Theses are used to save Photoshop files so you can go back and start editing where you left off. These are often used by graphic designers.

Advantage Tiffs can hold edited photos and all the layers and they are and adaption of a PSD as they can be used on a variety of software's so these are more preferable.

Disadvantage Tiffs are quite large files and cannot be viewed on everything.

GIFStands For

Used For/Example Gifs are used for short animations that are used on websites to advertise. They are very low quality.

Advantage They can be funny and get peoples attention on the internet. They are very easy to create as they are using simple shapes. They are small files so they can be downloaded quickly.

Disadvantage They are very low quality. They are not compatible on a lot of things so you cannot usually view them on everything.

BMPStands For

Used For/Example BMP format is a commonly used for saving image files.

Advantage There is no loss of quality when compressing the image so it keeps its quality.

Disadvantage They have a very large file size. It is also limited it resizing as the image can become distorted.

PSDStands For

Used For/Example This is to save images from Photoshop as a Photoshop file so all your previous layering and edits are all saved with the image.

Advantage You can start where you left off so you can keep or delete layers if you are not happy.

Disadvantage They are not compatible with computers that don’t have or run Photoshop.

AIStands For

Used For/Example These are often used to create logos.

Advantage These can be scaled very large or to billboards to small website logos.

Disadvantage You have to be quite arty to make it look sophisticated and professional.

Used For/Example These are used to make animations for games.

Advantage They produce high quality files but its only a small file size. The animations also include sound and video so they can be more sophisticated and detailed.

Disadvantage Only certain software can run a FLA file.

Used For/Example These are used for logos and company graphics. It is used for clipart.

Advantage The images can be scaled very large or very small with no loss of quality.

Disadvantage It is only compatible on windows software.

reduced by compressing the amount of pixels and the amount of information and quality in the image.

Advantage The file size is reduced by the compression and reduces the amount of memory needed for the file.

Disadvantage When the image is compressed and recompressed it looses quality and can become pixelated.

A scanner is used to get a hard copy image to a digital image. This can allow a photo to be edited on Photoshop.

and the internet.

How can you optimise? You can compress the image. Also you can make the file size smaller in Photoshop by reducing the resolution.

Advantage to optimising Optimising an image reduces the file size. This reduces the time it takes for it to download.

Disadvantage to optimising This reduces the amount of pixels in an image so it reduces the quality of the image.

Because out might have to re adjust page margins so it fits into the document.

• You could use Flash files FLA to create video games. This is because it allows you to use animations, games, sound and video which are the basic requirements of a video game.

Why is it a good idea to accurately name your assets?

This is a good idea so it is easily identified as yours and it is easy to find. It is helpdull to name your assets under a certain date so you van put it in date order so you can easily find your assets in the order they were published. You van use certain memorable symbols to make your assets stand out such as */#.

Asset ManagementWhy would you use folders when storing

your assets?So you no where and which files are in each folder and what each file contains. It helps to keep your work organized so they are easy to locate in the future. It would be helpful to use many folders in a hierarchy system with main folders then sub folders so it is a clear path to follow to find certain documents.

What folders would you create and what would you save within them

I would save confidential information with in different categories of folders.
