In early years of horror, male characters were the stereotypical antagonist (E.G Pyscho, Friday The 13th), however in more recent years this stereotype has been challenged with the use of 'scary' or 'creepy' women and children in horrors as the main antagonists instead. We know this from the research we did as a group of horrors such as The Woman in Black, Dead Silence and Annabelle, we gathered inspiration we got from them and this influenced our all female cast.

I think that our media represents the social group of ‘The Mainstream’ the most, this is because

In my opinion, I think that our production would be most suited to 'The Mainstream' cultural consumer of Young & Rubicam. My reasons for suggesting this are because our horror audience suit the characteristics of "people who live in the world of the domestic and the everyday. a daily routine is fundamental to the way they live their lives. Their life chooses are 'we' rather than 'me'" - supernatural horrors have become more popular in the 2000's (e.g insidious) therefore, with this growing popularity the Mainstream audiences may follow the crowd and the supernatural horror hype.

I think that our media would be distributed by an independent film company such as BBC Films. This is because BBC Film has created supernatural horrors such as The Woman in Black, a film in which our film was highly influenced by. It is likely that our film would be made by an independent film company because big film companies such as Disney create blockbuster movies, with extremely large budgets and high quality equipment.

WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA

PRODUCT? For our production our audience would be mostly females as they are likely to relate to the 'doll' aspect of the production, perhaps reminding them of their childhood. It would be for people aged 15 and up because of the horror themes surrounding it, perhaps it wouldn't be suitable for younger viewers. However, I think that in order to consume our film our audience need to be able to purchase the rights to watch our film (e.g cinema, DVD, Blu-Ray etc) making the class of our audience for those at perhaps C1. Yet, Our main protagonist is going to be acted by a girl aged 17, the music we are to be using is childlike and perhaps these factors would reach out to the E class. I think that our production would be suitable for those between E-C1.

HOW DID YOU AT TRACT/ADRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

One way we addressed our audience was by creating a Twitter and Instagram page, we thought that as our target audience are likely to be those of ‘The Mainstream’ category they are likely to be in touch with the latest social networking sites therefore are likely to get the ‘hype’ online.

Another way of us attracting our audience was by starting up a focus group – we asked a group of our peers to answer questions related to what they would prefer in terms of ‘what they found the most scary’ etc, this really helped us address our audience as we were directly getting responses to what they wanted

As the camera woman of our production, I learnt a lot about what worked well and what didn’t so well within our production. For example, we tried out several shots with ‘victim images’ in a forest – on one of the shots we used a tripod, this ensured that the image we were filming was totally in focus and shot. However, we tried to film some other ‘victim images’ using a ‘hand held’ effect with the camera, this did not work so well as we also used natural lighting meaning that every time we tried to film our shadows kept getting in the way of the shot. The ‘hand held’ effect also made our shot a bit too shaky therefore the pictures were slightly out of focus.

From the beginning of our preliminary task until now I think that I have learnt a lot of valuable lessons about the process of creating a full production. I think that one of the most vital lessons that I have learnt is to always plan ahead of the production, adding structure with filming schedules, shot lists etc avoids any confusion and chaos amongst cast members.
