EVALUATION QUESTION 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction

and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Research & Planning

I used the internet for a large amount of the research & planning. To view film trailers I used You tube or the films official website and I used film production websites to research details about the companies. To display my work I used powerpoints, mood boards questionnaires and voxpops. I used my camera set up on a tripod to film my voxpop which really helped me concentrate on asking the questions and not worrying about holding the camera and keeping it steady after that I used IMovie to edit which I will discuss in my next slide. The voxpop was a great way of displaying the views I gathered from my target audience and the questionnaire was another way of having all those ideas written down. My questionnaires were made using a poll-junkie website online which assisted me in creating professional looking questionnaires. I really think these two forms of media technology helped me in planning a film trailer that is suitable for my target audience.

Construction

For the filming of my trailer I used a Canon 550D with a 18-55mm lens for the standard shots and a 50mm lens for the short depth of field shots. I used an external L.E.D light for the night shots and an external view finder to make sure the focus was always correct. I also used a shotgun rode mic for the diegetic sound and I also used it in post production for some of the dialogue. I used a velbon tripod dv-700 which I invested in for this product. Because of its sturdiness and liquid movement system I managed to make my panning shots look professional which I am very please with. I had padded cases for the camera and the tripod to ensure safety at all times when out on shoot. I also used a twin battery pack for the camera with a dual battery life of 14 hours to make sure my camera wouldn’t turn off mid shoot. To stop wind interference with the mic during outdoor shoots I used a wind guard over the mic.

Post production

EditingFor edit I used IMovie 11 due to my small budget. Although some aspects are good I feel the software limited my editing ability a lot especially with overlaying more than 2 video tracks and adding titles that looked professional. However I worked with it well and only attempted things that the software would allow.SoundFor my trailer I decided to use a selection of my own foley sounds to create the car crash noise. I chose to do this as I felt it would improve my skill and knowledge to do with sound. I used a recording studio at my school to record different sounds onto the programme Logic Pro using a hama studio mic. Once I recorded all the different sounds I used the editing programme to put them altogether to sound realistic. The professional technology that was available to me helped me make the trailer sounds professional.
