- An art teacher who runs an art school in Bercham and was inspired by the murals that started in Penang.

- Located on a little lane off Jalan Dato Onn Jaafar, on the back walls of a row of shop lots.

-The murals are drawn and painted by Lai and also his students.

- His mural art are mostly on children’s activities and a glimpse look on life

BODY GESTURES - The man below is supporting his

dancing partner in performing various acts and tricks

- The man above is moving the lion’s head as if it is alive in a way

FIRST IMPRESSION - Shows a lion dance performance - - Viewers attention are drawn towards

the striking colours of the lion’s costume

COLLECTIVIST CULTURE - A style of traditional dance in

Chinese culture - To scare away evil spirits and

summon good luck and fortune

PROXEMICS - The dancers are within each others personal space in an

intimate distance.

HUMAN COMMUNICATION - The mural allows locals to be able to relate to it. It depict a

scene part of a local tradition that still thrives in Malaysia today.

B AT T L E F I S H E S “Two children with fighting fishes as a form of entertainment to pass the time.”

PASSIVE PERCEPTION - In the children’s perspective, they just love to see the fishes battle against each other.

They think it is an entertainment because they have lack of horrifying experiences such as committing a murder. As they’re growing up, they will notice the dangerous part of the

daily life.

FIRST IMPRESSION - They are observing the battle fishes in

jars. Their relationship are bond together so tight who can be brother and sister. - We can also see them as good friends that enjoy spend leisure time with each

other.

PROXEMICS - The distance between

them are very close. It may proves that they are best

friends, relatives or siblings. It is due to the reason that they have reach intimate

distance.

NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION - Both of the children are fascinated by

the fishes and their faces shows a pleasant expression.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP

- Interacting by using the same hobby as to observe the battle

fish together. - Developing good self-

disclosure because they reveal their true self to one another

to develop meaningful relationship if both of them are

friends.

CREATING A COMMUNITY THROUGH MURAL MAKING-Strive to keep an equal balance between product and process-Creating meaningful work of art and transforming lives-Engaging the youth & allowing opportunity and achievements for local citizens

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF YOUTH-Increase school attendance & improve outcomes in other areas of life-Train alongside community muralists-Creating a sense of belonging, especially for youths, by beautifying communities & developing a creative space within the neighbourhoods.
