Page 1: Digipak and Advert Feedback

Targets for digipak:The targets that I have been given are to cut down the track list to a smaller amount of songs, this will then make the text on the back of my digipak become more prominent because it compliments the background better as its more simplistic. Also the elements and illustrations used on my digipak should be changed as I didn’t make them. Taking more photos of abstract things or even drawing illustrations to use will contribute to the improvement of my digipak. The cutting out of images also needs to be perfected as the pictures look ragged and un-neat. Down the spine of the digipak I will need to add a catalogue number, band name, album name and record logo. On the left side when the digipak is opened it was suggested that I add an insert poster of the band or maybe song lyrics. Also to add credits for songwriters, producers, engineers etc.

Targets for advert:The targets I was set for my digipak advert were to ensure that the cutting out around the images is perfect with no ragged edges. Also I were to go through with keeping the shadows behind the band, again the cutting out will need to be perfected unless I was to create a purpose ragged look for the image.

Are any of these targets a surprise to you? These targets aren’t a surprise to me as I found when I had finished that my digipak lacked text and looked quite plain, for example if I had a coloured background instead of the illustrations my digipak would be rather bare. Some targets were obvious as I had forgotten to add certain elements such as the spine details or detail to the inside such as credits or song lyrics. The targets for the digipak advert weren’t surprising as I didn’t do a great job of cutting the images out properly, it wouldn’t have been as noticeable but I then chose to add a shadow around them which made the scruffy edges more prominent.

How will you meet these targets?I will meet these targets by doing more research into digipaks and looking back over my previous research in order to make my digipak perfect. I have already started to look at more digipaks and take ideas and inspiration from those to create uniquely onto my own digipak. Using conventions used on existing products will support my digipak to becoming more effective because I will be able to mix and match different ideas to create something individual. Also, regarding images to go onto my product I will begin to take more photographs of the band in different outfits and poses so I have more choice as to what I want to put on my digipak and I will also be able to try different images as I will have a new variety. The targets for my advert will be met by again taking more photographs with a different backgrounds so that I don’t have to struggle to cut the image out. The time I save doing this can then go towards making the rest of my digipak more effective.

When will you have completed these targets?Again, I have already began researching more into digipaks and there layouts and formats in order to produce something better regarding my finished production. Iv already began to improve some of my targets such as the one to do with the detail on the spine. A catalogue number, band name, album name and record logo has ben successfully added. I am to meet these targets within the next week, in order to focus on filming and editing.

What have your learnt about your own product from this activity? From both the feedback I received and my own opinion I don’t think that my product was a good attempt, I feel that it was messy and didn’t include enough ideas or conventions of a digipak. I had forgotten to include certain features and I looking back I found that it lacked imagination. My image were also rushed and not effective however I now know where I went wrong and where I need to improve.
