Chuck Close (b. 1940, Monroe, WA) is renowned for his highly inventive techniques of painting the human face, and is best known for his large-scale, photo-based portrait paintings.His work has creatively blurred the distinction between photography and painting.

Original PhotoThe photo seen on the right is my template photo in which I edited on Photoshop to create the image on the next slide. There is the use of a dark background and artificial light exposed on the right hand side of the model’s face creating a shadow. I did this in order to create an intense but soft atmosphere and my use of lighting was used in attempt to recreate the lighting used by Chuck Close.My camera settings were on F stop 13 and my camera lens was zoomed in to ensure I got a clear view of the face.

I edited the picture on the previous slide to create the image above by decreasing the brightness and increasing the contrast to get a sharper image. I then changed the picture to black and white and increased the exposure slightly to emphasize the side of the face in the light, whilst the side of the face in the shadows is a little bit smoother.
