to fly or not to flyto love or not to love
Leonardo Da Vinci was a dreamer and a scientist, fully convinced that with the help of technology man could fly… 400 years later, it happened.
Technology has changed completely the shape of the airplanes and also their reliability. No more wax and feathers, but carbon and aluminium.
The airplane has become the most reliable means of transportation.

However we still face problems. Not the technical ones, as those limiting Da Vinci’s to implement his dreams, not those related to terrorism, … but the one we cannot escape from: our fear of flyingNote that in Europe 45% to 55% of people are affected by fear of flying?

fear of flying, why is that ?Individual Reasons - away from the safe and familiar surroundings; - losing control, being lifted, lose one's footing; - the belief that you will fall down like a stone if
the engines fail; - you are condemned to wait passively. You are
always on someone’s mercy;
Environmental Causes - hescape barriers; - high level of noise, unfamiliar noises; - unexpected movements, unstability; - surrounded by air, nothin solid that could carry
such a heavy metal tube

What does it mean to fly?
Why we are afraid of flying if the technical problems have been resolved? To answer these questions we have to consider the meaning of flying for human beings.
To fly means to overcome personal limits, or those imposed by the nature (as we have no wings). la Quercia
love at the heart of the brain
The evolution and the progress are the results of this process.
Without the attempts to overcome human limits, no major advancement could have been made, no relevant progress could have been achieved.
No discovery, no technology, no biological achievements.
Indeed, human beings are natural curious, ambitious explorers

We are all born with natural inclinations (more or less) to explore. The risk is that every time we challenge our limits, there might be a cost to pay:
1. to be unsuccessful2. to ruine or damage ourselves3. to lose ourselves;
Obviously, there also might be some benefits. Therefore we consider the costs & benefits, the pros & cons. So yes, we also look for a personal balance between:
to fly or not to fly to stay or to go to love or not to love

fear of flying is a metaphor for fear of loving
The crucial question is not only to fly or not to fly? But to love or not to love? We can refuse to fly, but we can not refuse to love

the traveller’s checklist
leave your problems at home; never be too late; do not carry heavy luggage with you; be curious (look around); avoid focusing on single sensations; remember that to arrive at destination, you need discipline, concentration, supreme
interest and maturity; be ready to understand the others’ feedbacks; be ready to leave immediately for the next travel when it is the right time;
The most uncomfortable aspect of flying is the presence of turbulence which often represents the main trigger of the fear of flying. However, keep always in mind that airplanes are built to resist to all known adverse metereological weather conditions.

In addition to technical improvements, other procedures have been introduced to eliminate human errors:
1. The intensive and never ending training of pilots;2. At least two pilots in the cock-pit;3. There are many additional safety procedures, one of these is called checklist;
coping mechanisms
TIPS Recognize that your fear of flying, such as any other fear, comes
from your mind, from your wrong beliefs about flying.
Challenge your beliefs, use evidence to support the change.
Practice the challenge and do not give up, since fear might re-emerge, change will take time.
TRICKS If your breathing rate increases, use the supplied paper bag in
your seat pocket and breath in it, or close your nose and mouth and don’t breathe as long as you can.
Put one hand over your chest and the other one over your belly. Breathe making sure that the one hand on the chest does not rise higher than the one on the belly.
Make a fist with one hand and hold it very tight with the other for five seconds, then relax your hands and focus on you. Repeat the excercise by using the other hand inner sensation.
Both hands, cross your fingers, thumbs together and push very hard one against the other. Relax with fingers still crossed for 5 seconds, then bend your thumbs in a heart shape, push the knuckles together and think about something you like.

The pain you might feel is because there is no rose without thorn and no love without pain.
The important thing is: never concentrate on noise, sensation of movement, pain or fear, but concentrate on the tips and tricks. The best fly is to fly together
