GEOGRAPHYGEOGRAPHY• Spain, a beautiful country. At

505,992 km2 (195,365 sq mi), Spain is the world's 52nd-largest country. On the west, Spain borders Portugal. Spain belongs at Iberian Peninsula. It has population about 46 million people. Madrid is the biggest city and the capital of Spain. Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Malaga are some of the biggest cities in Spain.

THE ARTs • Artists from Spain have been

highly influential in the development of various European artistic movements. Due to historical, geographical and generational diversity, Spanish art has known a great number of influences. The Moorish heritage in Spain, especially in Andalusia, is still evident today and European influences include Italy, Germany and France, especially during the Baroque and Neoclassical periods.

• During the Golden Age we find painters as El Greco, José d Ribera and Francisco Zurbarán. Also inside Baroque period Diego Velázquez created some of the most famous Spanish portraits, like Las Meninas or Las Hilanderas.

• Francisco Goya was painted during the period of the Spanish Independence War, a historical period during the fights between liberals and absolutists, and with the raise of state-nations.

Leisure time Walking: Walking might not be

everyone’s favorite way of spending their free time, but it’s certainly one of the best ways to relax, discover new places and keep fit in the same time. The Pyrenees are probably the most popular destination with hikers, with thousands taking the way of Santiago de Compostela (a medieval pilgrimage route) every year. The Sierra Nevada ranges in Southern Spain make a great choice, as well.

Golf: Golf has become widely

available in Spain, especially around the major cities and the big seaside resorts. While many hotels and resorts might have their own mini golf facilities, you’ll find a considerable number of prime quality courses, especially in the area of Costa Blanca and at the outskirts of Barcelona and Madrid.

Dancing: Last but not least, here

comes an activity that you can enjoy everywhere you go, no matter what the time of the hear or how late in the night: dancing. While places like Ibiza are famous for their nightlife, you can find dance clubs everywhere in Spain

Sports• SPORTS Spain is one of the most

successful countries at the sport sector. At football, “La Liga”(Spanish league) is the second most famous league in the world. Real Madrid is the “Queen” of football with nine Champion League trophies in the team’s trophy case. Barcelona F.C. is the best football team in the world across the UEFA’s list. Total Spanish teams have won thirteen Champion league trophies and seven Europa league trophies.

• The international football team of Spain has won three European trophies (1964, 2008 and 2012) and one world trophy (2010). At basketball Real Madrid is the “Queen” too with eight euroleague trophies. Total Spanish teams have won eleven euroleague trophies. The international basketball team of Spain has won two European trophies (2009 and2011) and one world trophy(2006).
