• Bordering countries:

Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia,

and Mozambique.

• The nine provinces: The

Eastern Cape, Free State,

Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal,

Limpopo, Mpumalanga,

Northern Cape, North West and

Western Cape.

Geographic Features Of

South Africa

• Table Mountain.

• The Indian Ocean (on the East) and the Atlantic Ocean (on the West.)

• Cape Point.

• Grassy hills and beautiful mountains, rivers, and a desert, called the Kalahari.

• We have four seasons.

• Average climate is moderate.

• Celebrate Independence Day, Freedom Day, Reconciliation Day, Christmas and New Year.

• 11 official languages, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana, Swati, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, Afrikaans, Ndebele, Xhosa, Zulu and English.

• We have a lot of different foods, like pap and biltong, milktart, Malva pudding. Influenced by Dutch, Malay and Indian cultures. Good wines from French Huguenot influence.

• The President is Jacob Zuma.

• South Africa is a democracy.

• Government has 13 political parties with the African National

Congress (ANC) being the ruling

party.

Before 1994, only white South Africans were allowed to vote.

• Since 1994, all South Africa citizens over the age of 18 are allowed to vote.

The Economy Of South Africa

• Farming, mining, and automotive industries run the economy.

• The currency used is Rand, in denominations 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200’s.

• Tourism contributes to the economy.

The Tourism Of South Africa

• Shops, activities and places to see.

• Things to do: game farms, horse riding, safaris, camping, hiking, running on the beach, kite surfing, and surfing.

• Things to see: The beautiful Table Mountain, sunsets, wild animals, the oceans, Cango Caves, Cape Point, Big Five, DrakensbergMountains and our beautiful Coastline.

• Soccer, rugby and cricket.

Miscellaneous

• First heart transplant was performed in Cape Town by Dr. Christiaan Barnard in 1967.

• Known as the “Rainbow Nation.”

• Won the Rugby World Cup in 1995.

• Known for it’s gold and diamonds.

• Hosted the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
