Art Gallery and Cultural Museum

The Art Gallery and Cultural Museum is are a popular spot for traders selling stone or wood carvings or woven bags, baskets or the like. It is also a principle meeting place for political rallies (including the many rallies held prior to an election when, inevitably, a rash of new political parties are created). There have been development proposals hanging around the Art Gallery area for a couple of years.

Point Cruz (Iron Bottom Sound)Bonegi One Japanese transport ship (Hirokawa Maru).

Attacked by American Dive Bombers and beached on November 14, 1942. This ship is laying Bow to the shore on its Port Side. This is an excellent dive site with a profusion of corals and fish life in the shallows to pelagic fish at depth. Access in and out of the wreck is easy and safe.

Bonegi Two Japanese transport ship (Kinugawa Maru) that

sunk with Bonegi one. The ship is laying Bow on to the shore and the stern is lying on its port side. Great wreck for a second dive with good coral and fish life in the shallows.

PANATINA PLAZA Out of town, towards the airport, is the

Panatina Plaza. The complex has a small eatery in the centre which includes a scattering of tables. Circling the eatery is a variety of shops, including an electrical store, pharmacy, medical centre, Our Telekom outlet, stationery supplier and well stocked mini-mart where you will find most of the items you can't find in town.

Dive GizoDive Gizo The waters around Gizo are famous for having the most

diverse and exciting diving to be found anywhere in the Solomon’s; some may even say the world.  There is a little dive company near the hotel which are used for diving and snorkeling. The clear wateropens up an amazing display of sea whips, giant gorgonian fans and an immense display of hard and soft corals. There are also Sharks, turtles, and eagle rays are ever present plus huge schools of reef fish make the diving memorable.

Another best place for diving is Toa Maru which is a Japanese transport ship sunk off Gizo in Iron bottom Sound during World War II. The deepest point of the wreck is by the stern, which rest in 130 feet of water, however the top of the wreck can be reached at a depth of 40 feet. The contents of the ships 6 cargo holds include saki bottles, ammunition clips, and a tank.

Beach Diving

Attractions The dive company organises the sightseeing

trips to small offshore islands around Gizo. Other excursion: bush walk to World War II

land sites, village tours and bird watching. It’s a couple of minutes walk into the town

area, the waterfront market where they have the general stores selling arts and crafts, souvenirs and gifts shops, fish markets, and restaurants are out the front of the Gizo Hotel.

In the evening, there is an island night with singing and dancing.
