Should the Loyola Schools Activity Hour be moved?

from Friday (4:30-600PM)

to Monday (4:30-6:00PM)

[Wednesday AH will not be moved]

LS admin proposed this shift to compensate for the class hours lost due

to GMA’s holiday economics

Holiday economics entails the transfer of

some holidays to a Monday or a Friday so

that Filipinos may enjoy longer weekends

Monday government-mandated holidays last

First Semester:1. June 9 – Independence Day

2. August 18 – Ninoy Aquino Day

3. August 25 – National Heroes Day

Other Mondays that lost class hours:

1. July 7 – Australs / INAF Day

2. August 4 – Typhoon

Last semester, we had…

33 classes that started at 4:30PM (Monday)

3 classes that started at 4:30PM (Fridays)

For Mondays, that is equal to…

Five (5) 2-hour classes

&

Twenty-eight (28) 3-hour classes

48 hours (M)

vs

9 hours (F)Source: LS

How are the organizations

reacting to this?

They are generally in opposition to this

change

Less org activities because there is a possibility that Monday classes will be cancelled

1

Less attendance to org activities during Mondays compared to Fridays since it’s not a weekend

2

Orgs lose the option of extending activities beyond 6:00PM and/or up to Saturdays

3

There is less time to promote for Monday activities

4

It’s harder to settle pre-project concerns because offices are not open on weekends

5

Aside from orgs, who else will be

affected?

1. Guidance testing

2. Placement office activities

3. OSCI Activities Sign-Ups

4. Special classes

But more often than not, these

offices/classes merely adjust to the available

activity hours

How many holidays will we have this coming

1st semester?

Government mandated holidays this coming 1st

semester (SY 09-10)

1. June 12 (F) – Independence Day

2. August 21 (F) – Ninoy Aquino Day

3. August 31 (M) – National Heroes Day

and maybe even…

4. September 21(M) - Eid'l Fitr (end of Ramadan)

Given all those considerations…
