Azeitao15km (9 1/3 miles) NW of Setúbal; 25km (16 miles) SE of LisbonThis sleepy village lies in the heart of quinta country. In its most meager manifestation, a quinta is a simple farmhouse surrounded by land. At its best, it's a mansion of great architectural style filled with art. Azeitão boasts some of the finest quintas in the country. The village makes a good base for trekkers, especially those who want to scale the limestone Serra de Arrábida. For others, long walks through scented pinewoods or silvery olive groves will suffice. To cap off your day, try some Azeitão cheese and a bottle of local muscatel wine.Tile making is still a living tradition in this region, thanks to the creativity of its craftsmen and the existence of workshops that keep up the ancient tradition of tile manufacture. There are several different places in the district where you can find hand-painted tiles

Azeitão is a concentrated round of sheep's milk cheese that is coagulated with cardoon thistle instead of traditional animal rennet. Azeitão is named for the village where it was born in the foothills of the Arribida mountain range in Portugal. Nestling among olive and cork trees, Azeitao is a pretty and prosperous little village in the region of Setubal at the foot of the Arrabida Hills. Known for its red wine, olives and creamy sheep cheese, the latter prized as one of the best in the country,

Azeitao also features some of the finest quintas (villas or country estates) in the region.

Azeitão is also home to one of the region's biggest ceramics factories: São Simão Arte. The factory outlet sells its products at prices that are somewhat less than in equivalent retail shops

Azulejos de Azeitao are making several workshops with tourists who travels to Setúbal Region.  It is usual find german, french, japanese, americans and even canadians working in tiles and drawing their own drawings. During 3 hours, tourists have the opportunity to improve the knowledge of the handmade process and painting their own tile
