Burundi ist ein für afrikanische Verhältnisse dicht bevölkerter Staat in Ostafrika. Er grenzt im Norden an Ruanda, im Osten an Tansania und im Westen an die Demokratische Republik Kongo. Der größte Teil der Grenze zur Demokratischen Republik Kongo liegt im Tanganjika-See. Im Human Development Index liegt Burundi im Jahr 2012 auf Platz 178 von 186.
Burundi , officially the Republic of Burundi (Kirundi: Republika y'Uburundi,, is a landlocked country in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa, bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Its capital is Bujumbura. Although the country is landlocked, much of the southwestern border is adjacent to Lake Tanganyika.
