Marajo Island

Sumaúma Tree – Ceiba pentandra – a giant of the forest .The architecture of its roots keep it standing above all.

Tree roots architecture assert the right of trees .They keep standing in swamp or flooded terrain.

We are here at the dry season. Low waters.Imagine rain season. Waters 2 meters hight.

We are here in the core of the forest. Not alone. With the help of guiding people. We are safe.

With the help of guides we know distant beaches. This is not a salt water beach. We are in Amazonia.

Nobody´s beach. You can stay here all day alone.Your only company: thousands of tropical birds.

And that strange vegetation. Specially in the dry season. All that aerial roots like sculpturs at an open museum.

Guará birds. They feed on small red crabs. As they get older their feathers turn red. Young guaras are grey.See!

The background lighthouse and the grass at first plan seems to me like a Scottish landscape. Play golf here?

At the end of the day, when you return to the hotel, the dancers will surprise you with their

performances.Native rhythm called

“carimbó” is like a hot Caribbean dance.

Beautiful girls will invite you to dance with they.Marajo island is the first door to this strange and enormous world called

Amazonia.
