Share and Subfolders and advanced ACL - DESIDERATA

Using ReadyNAS as a File Server

Configuration

Setup Share for File Sharing

o Create Volume RAID 5 (max 6 HDD) or RAID 6 (max 12 HDD) with large, small files

(volume capacity)

o Create Volume RAID 10 with millions of small files (performance)

increase random IO performance to address latency when accessing these shares

o Enable Network Load Balancing (performance)IEEE802.3ad LACP is the best setup but need the switch being compliant

- volume RAID setup options:

for each NAS protocol: SMB , AFP and NFS

Setup Share for File Sharing

o Enable Bit Rot protection (data protection from silent data corruption)

o Enable Compression (space volume efficiency)

o Enable Continuos Protection (data protection point-in-time)

o Schedule a Volume Balancing (space volume efficiency)

for each NAS protocol: SMB , AFP and NFS

- suggested:

Setup Share for File Sharing

o Schedule Volume Defragmentation (performance)

o Schedule Volume Scrub (data integrity)

for each NAS protocol: SMB , AFP and NFS

- optional:

Setup Share for File Sharing

• Create the share «Documenti» with a hourly continous protection, Bit Rot protection and compression

Setup Share for File Sharing

Setup Share for File Sharing

• Schedule a weekly volume balancing to optimize data chunks and metadata

Not schedule in working hours
