What is Cloud Computing?

Todd Brouillette

Todd Brouillette spent sixteen years as a high tech sales executive who says that a key insight early in his career made all the difference in his successful selling.

He believes most important innovation in the computer industry in recent years is the advent of cloud computing.

Cloud computing is the strategy of using a series of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, as opposed to a local, or on-premise server or a single personal computer’s hard disk.

Industry analysts say that cloud computing has evolved over some fifty years of technological evolution. There are currently several different cloud deployment models:• Public cloud is where computing resources are used by different organizations

over the Internet on a pay-as-you-go model.• Private cloud is where the cloud infrastructure is owned entirely by a single

organization, and can be located either on site or off site.• Community cloud is where the cloud infrastructure is owned and shared by many

organizations with common concerns.• Hybrid cloud is a combination of any of the other cloud models, and connected

by standardized or proprietary technology.
