3xScreen Case Study

3xScreen Sports Live StreamingRecent Sports Projects:

Live Stream Distribution:

3xScreen Sports Live Streaming WorkflowMulti-camera OB including

replays and graphicsUplink to MCR via LiveU

3xScreen Sports Live Streaming WorkflowAn additional layer of stream-

specific production added at our MCR

Stream-Specific MCR Production• Broadcast bugs• Play pre-event promo clips or slates• Add tickers to welcome and update

viewers• Record and loop events at

completion • Clip and upload event elements

(such as fights) for on-demand viewing

• Publish multiple languages from single feed source

• Add commentary • Scores, lower thirds and other

graphics

• Virtual camera effects to single camera shoots so they appear to be shot by multiple cameras

• Half and full-time highlights, play in VTs

Our centralised MCR production is enabled by LiveU in our workflow

Staff and equipment efficiencies…• We don't ship our encoders to events

– which means:– Higher utilisation of encoding

CPU and input ports– Easier logistics– Smaller on-site technical team– Centralised clipping, uploading

• Prior to the start of the event, early viewers served by MCR vision mixers

• OB team free to do their pre-live set ups and tests

• Link from event monitored and tuned

• At moment of going live, only ever a camera take at MCR

• Going-live stress totally removed

No pre-live stress

• Multi-camera production at MCR with cameramen directly connected to LiveU backpacks

• No on-site production infrastructure required at venue• Particularly useful when camera operators are mobile or in crowds• Not suitable when frame or audio synchronisation is required

MCR Camera Switching

Cellular Uplink Vs On-Site Encoding• Live streaming

decoupled from availability of internet at venue

• Use WiFi & Ethernet if available

• 3/4G or Ku/Ka broadband satellite via the LiveU backpack if not

Cellular Uplink Vs On-Site Encoding

Ka/Ku satellite complements 3/4G Flexibility

If Only Using Venue Connections…

• Balancing and redundancy across available links

• Automatic adjustment to changes in link performance

• Less bandwidth required – for one or dual high quality (H264 High profile) links

• No Line-of-Sight issues• No permits• No security• No parking• No long cable runs in public areas =>

health and safety issues• No microwave links from production

to SNG truck• No SNG truck and engineer => < £££

Cellular Uplink Vs Satellite Uplink

Non-Live Workflow• Play out edits from timeline

instead of rendering• solve FTP issues - assured

delivery, stop and restart, finish edit and drive off while uploading or take LiveU out to dinner

• Complex distribution of clips from MCR with usual FTP automation
