ROLE OF INFORMATION

TECHNOLOGY ON THE ENVIRONMENT

INTRODUCTION

Environmental Information Technology is the study and practice of technological applications, designed to deliver user-friendly information about the environment.

It includes Software creation, improvement of simulated environments for human interaction with the immediate environment.

SOFTWARE CREATION

A group of undergraduates at Harvard University created a software. The students developed a remote notebook, which is useful to marine biologists and others working in wet environments.

IMPROVED SIMULATED ENVIRONMENTS

• Weather forecasters work with simulated environments.• One way to improve simulated environments is by deepening the “AI”

component.

BAD EFFECTS OF IT IN THE ENVIRONMENT

• Refrigerators and freezers are necessities in day-to-day life and are difficult to dispose off properly.

• Cell phones, cars, home appliances have also become a necessity.

IMPORTANT APPLICATIONS

• Use of Geographical Information System(GIS).• Remote Sensing.• World Wide Web.• Human Health.

GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM(GIS)

• It is a technique of superimposing thematic maps.• Uses digital data.• Used on a large number of inter-related aspects.

REMOTE SENSING

• Ongoing changes in the environment can be assessed easily through Satellites.

• Occurrence of natural calamities can be predicted well in advance.

WORLD WIDE WEB

• A vast quantum of data is available.• It has proved to be useful for both students and teachers.

HUMAN HEALTH

• Helps doctors to monitor the health of the people.• Information can be sent more quickly to take corrective measures.

CONCLUSION

Information Technology is expanding rapidly with increasing applications and new avenues are being opened with effective role in education, management and planning n the field of environment and health.

THAT’SALL!
