My Web Identity…Who am I in the eyes of the Internet? If you

had never met me, what could you discover about me…

To the Google!

It seems as if Facebook has a good handle on me. I appear right at the top of the Google search…

If we’re already friends this is what you’ll see on my Facebook page.

• There’s nothing there that I would feel embarrassed about; though, I still don’t want my students poking around in my social life. For that reason I’m pretty careful about my security settings.

Facebook has this funny way of letting their security settings slip from time to time…

So I created a dummy account using my @ncsu e-mail. That way I can check on my account from time to time as a stranger.

This is what my Facebook account looks like if we are not friends…

Ok, so what else does the computernet have on me?

There’s also the website with guest information about my upcoming wedding…

This site expires soon after the wedding—well before I start teaching. However, even if my students did stumble upon this sit I’d be okay with it.

What images does the Google have of me?

Let’s see what comes up when I search for T. Justin Earley images…

Nothin’. Well actually, there are pictures of my brother-in-law and sister in law and one of my father holding my niece on that page. But other than that nothing interesting.

But Justin isn’t the only name I use. There are a lot of people who know me as “J”.

Let’s check out an image search for that…

Well, there’s my linked in picture.

And just underneath is an instructional video I made for Belvedere Vodka.

And there are a bunch of Jay Earleys. None of which are me.

Now I have a twitter account, which I swore I’d never have.Turns out it’s a lot of fun.

It seems that my web presence is fairly limited, though I’m no

professional investigator. If I leave a legacy I hope it’s more tangible than

digital, anyway.
