JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group.

In computing terms, JPEG is used as a method of compression to resize photos/images and to keep

their quality.

JPEG is best suitable for photos that want to be placed on the web.

GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format.

The format uses a palette of up to 256 distinct colours from the 24-bit colour space.

The colour limitation makes the GIF format unsuitable for reproducing colour photographs and other images

with lots of colour, so it is better used for simple images such as graphics or logos with solid areas of

colour.

PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics.

PNG was created to improve upon and replace the GIF format, as an image-file format not requiring a patent license.

PNG supports palette-based (palettes of 24-bit RGB colors), greyscale or RGB images.

PNG was designed for transferring images on the Internet.
