The BIM Task Group Definition

BIM is:

“Essentially value-creating collaboration through the entire life-cycle of an asset, underpinned by the creation, collation and exchange of shared 3D models and intelligent, structured data attached to them."

A Brief History

• First discussed in the early 1990s

• Gained ground about ten years ago

• Current interest driven by Government Construction Strategy (2011)

Government Construction Strategy

• Aims to achieve value for money on public build projects

• Requires use of collaborative BIM by end March 2016

• Project information, asset data, documentation - all must be electronic
