WHAT IS GREEN NETWORKING

Green networking is a broad term referring to processes used to optimize networking or make it more efficient. This term extends to and covers processes that reduce energy consumption, as well as processes for conserving bandwidth or any other process that will ultimately reduce energy use and, indirectly, cost.

SUSTAINABILITY

Meeting the needs of society in ways that can continue indefinitely into the future without damaging or depleting natural resources. In short, meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

SUSTAINABILITY (CONT..)Sustainable features include natural ventilation in all the labs and offices, a heat recovery system that captures heat from exhaust air and condensing units, dual flush toilets, waterless urinals, and sunshades to capture solar energy.

INTRODUCTION

More data needs more power. Traffic is doubling 40 percent in every two years which leads to 50,00,000 towers in a developed country and emits 78 Mtons Carbon-di-oxide. All this things have a great impact on the entire environment. So, we need a medium that helps to save the environment without losing the communication services. This all is called Green Networking.

RESEARCHES QUESTION

Which type of networks can yield the most significant energy savings?

Will energy-efficient networking be based only on more energy-proportional equipment, or do we need network-level solutions, e.g., sleep modes?

What can be the role for distributed and self-organizing approaches in network energy management?

POWER CONSUMPTION MODELING OVER GREEN NETWORKING

CONCLUSION

Finally, from an engineering point of view, green networking may be better seen as a way to reduce energy required to carry out a given task while maintaining the same level of performance.
