Glass Gifts With Sublimation Printing

Curing screen-printed ink on glass is a real engineering feat, due to the fact that the ink won’t cure until the entire thickness of the glass gets up to temperature, and the wattage in the oven needs to be powerful enough to keep up with the heat absorption rate into the glass.

In those days, we wished we could find an alternative method to decorate glass, maybe even a heat-transfer method. That seemed out of the question at the time, but now it is a reality with today’s sublimation transfer options. Our dream for a heat-transfer method on glass was answered!

No longer is it necessary to coat and expose multiple screens, mix two-part epoxy inks, print each color one color at a time, dry the ink in between colors and cure the ink in long conveyorized ovens. Now, with the purchase of a computer, graphics software, an inkjet printer with sublimation inks, and a heat press, you are in the glass-printing business.

There is a wide range of coated glassware products available for today’s sublimation printer. Some of these exciting products include glass cutting boards, coasters, clock fronts, shower doors, floor tiles and more. Like any process, there is a wide range of variables that need to be understood, in order to control color reproduction and design clarity when sublimating onto a glass surface.
