What is a decimal?•A decimal is a fractional number and is indicated by digits after a period which is called a decimal point.

•Compare from the left.

into the water BEHIND the decimal

MULTIPLYING!!!

•Line up the numbers.•Count the number of digits behind

a decimal point•Multiply the numbers like you

would whole numbers•Put the decimal at the end of the

answer and move it the number of places you counted in step two.

DIVISION!!!

• Move the decimal to the end of the outside number.

• Move the decimal the same number of places on the inside number.

• Put the decimal on the roof.• Divide like you would with whole

numbers.• If you have a remainder, add zeroes

behind the decimal and continue dividing.
