PresentingThe Leader-Member Exchange Theory
Corey White
Curious?
So is he
What does it mean? Basically, the Leader-Member Exchange theory creates matches in the work place to help it run
smoother. Different tests are used to determine who possesses compatible traits,
with the intentions of grouping these people together to
create a happier, more efficient work place.
So you don’t end up like this…
The Leader-Member Exchange theory actually encourages the development of relationships with coworkers.
Not everyone likes this idea…
So what makes it so different?
Uses in the workplace
Although attention has only been drawn to a few companies for using these new age methods,
many others are rapidly installing worker compatibility programs. They may be only
utilizing certain aspects of the Leader-Member exchange theory but Google,
Facebook, and Patagonia are some of the most popular companies experimenting with
these new age management methods.
Criticism? Some people believe that the the theory is flawed and the tests used in the Leader-Member Exchange theory categorize people according to things like age and gender.
These critics suggest that for the theory to be as impacting as
it’s supporters claim, the focus
would have to be on things like
personality type, interests, and
other traits that more specific to each individual.
To Sum it up…The goal of this whole
theory is to take a work place and mold it’s components into
their own creations, so that they can operate
as smoothly as possible and in turn
generating an environment in which everyone can excel.
