Coastline Challenges Camp

26 day Wilderness Program

Coastline Challenges is a 26-day wilderness program that takes youth away from the ordinary

routines of everyday life and gives them the opportunity to try something different!

WHAT?

The base camp for Coastline Challenges is located on a 98-acre outside of Victoria, BC

Each group spends the first few days at the base camp learning skills for the wilderness expeditions

Coastline Challenges is a progression of wilderness trips…

Our style is rugged.. Youth will be sleeping outside!

In the first few days of the program, groups will learn, practice and get comfortable with basic canoe skills, including strokes, safety, and rescue skills.

A “reflection” is 48 hours you will have on your own site to practice your wilderness skills and reflect on life. Staff come by often to check in on how you are doing.

What is a 48 hour “Reflection” (Solo)?

No Smoking No Weapons No Violence

No Drugs No crime stories

No Electronics

No contraband No Jewelry No Bullying

No Phone Use

No cosmetics No Alcohol

BASIC PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS

Early Exit:Coastline is a designated wilderness program supported by the Ministry of Children and Family Development and maintain a high level of safety at all times. Coastline adheres to the SPOWA manual (Ministry standards and policies governing Outdoor and Wilderness Activities) document that ensures safety of participants)

REASONS FOR AN EARLY EXIT:

•Repeated none compliance to program expectations

•Risk of AWOL/Missing person

•Safety of the participants and staff

•Unwilling participant into the field

•Medical reason

•Compassionate exit (extenuating circumstances)

Coastline has youth from all over BC attend our programs. From various cultural background, ages and abilities. You NEVER know what someone is capable of doing until they try.

Coastline is an opportunity for many youth to experience SUCCESS for the first time!

Challenge …and SuccessThere will be tough days……

There is no class room at Coastline! Learning is done out in the wilderness. Youth will see some of the most remote and epic areas around Vancouver Island.

There’s no way around it…. some of the days are long and full of hard work, and require determination, patience and a lot of extra effort. But at the end of the day when youth reach their destination, everyone shares the success and pride of a job well done.

By overcoming the tough times, Coastline Challenges helps youth tap into their unknown abilities and talents, develop inner strengths and grow in self-confidence.

Coastline Challenges is designed to be a meaningful and positive opportunity. Youth can experience of adventure and challenge, stretching their own limits. This experience will stay with them for many years to come.
