State Rooms

Buckingham Palace finally became the principal royal residence in 1837, on the accession of Queen Victoria.

The Ballroom is the largest room at Buckingham Palace. It was added by Queen Victoria and is used for ceremonies such as

investitures and state banquets. This picture dates from 1856.

Women

Women's evening dress included obligatory trains and tiaras or feathers in their hair (or both).

Today, there is no official dress code

If the occasion is "white tie" then women, if they possess one, wear a tiara.
