Project: 84,000 sq ft Standing Seam Metal Roof

Pre-existing repair with TOP COAT materialsresulted in water entrapment, moisture intrusion, metal panel deterioration and coating failure.

Adhesive-backed reinforcement cloth withASTEC WPM #9 was used at point of end lapseam under fasteners. This procedure created alow profile seam system allowing positive flowof water run off. The standing seam roof systemhad a ½” to 12” slope.

Project: Atlantic Airlines Dealer: Florida Exterior Coatings Lakeland, Florida Date: 2001

HANGER ROOF TEMPERATURE DROPS 66 DEGREES Atlantic Airlines is a charter service serving the U.S. East Coast with plans to add a few

seventeen-passenger planes. When Atlantic Airlines Pres. Mark Blanton bought another hanger in Lakeland, Florida he noticed a few roof leaks while remodeling the building. During this same time he received an Astec mailer and called ICC for more information. ICC sent out an information packet and the inquiry was forwarded to Florida Exterior Coatings, the Astec Dealer for that area. Kevin Guenther, owner of Florida Exterior Coatings, met with Mr. Blanton and detailed all the benefits of the Astec system including the insulating and heat reduction properties. “This was exactly what I was looking for”, Mr. Blanton said.

Mr. Blanton said the work was completed on a Saturday and you could tell an immediate

difference in temperature. Also, the project had generated a lot of interest around the airport. Mr. Blanton went on to say, “The next morning (Sunday) thirteen people came over to look at the job and all were very skeptical of the claims concerning heat reduction. That particular day we had a temperature on the concrete pad in front of the hanger of 107 degrees with no breeze. One of the gentlemen came equipped with a magnetic digital temperature gauge and proceeded to attach it to the underside of the roof of an adjoining hanger. The gauge read 164 degrees. We all anxiously waited while he entered my hanger and attached the unit to my roof. He then detached it, wiped it clean, reset the gauge and re-attached it. He looked down and said, ‘ you’re not going to believe this’. The temperature on the underside of my roof was 98 degrees. That is a difference of 66 degrees on adjoining hangers.” Mr. Blanton has plans to build another six hanger complex alongside the present hanger and said he will stipulate Astec coatings for the roof and sidewalls. Along with the superior waterproofing benefit, he said he also considers the thermal heat reduction a safety factor. “ If you can keep your mechanic comfortable, he might spend just a little more time on a repair or maintenance project if he doesn’t have sweat running in his eyes”.
