• interactive

• cross platform

It’s no longer just looking at pages...

...from a desktop

Where are we now?

• Permanent connections (3G, Wifi, Home)

• Several Internet capable devices

• Use several web-centric apps daily

(Youtube, Spotify, Wikipedia, Skype...)

THE TRICORDER IS HERE!!

I can:

• Capture content anywhere

• Spread it to anyone any time

• I can access any info about anything

• Need scales depending on the device

Ok, now what?

How do we create something great tomorrow?

The old way:

• Each service has its own infrastructure

• Use it from pc OR mobile

• One type of content!

• Build everything yourself

The problem:

You just want to build your service, not:

Logins

Visibility

Servers

Scaling

Need specific extra people

Tie the infra to your core dev

STOP REINVENTING THE WHEEL!

Creating something new: Create mashups!

Use large building blocks:

• Widgets (players, viewers...)

• Libraries (jQuery, Scripty...)

• Open services (APIs)

• Open source

Leverage openness

Flexible methodology

For example:

Logins: Open ID, OAuth, Facebook Connect

Visibility: Google, Facebook, Twitter?

Storage: Amazon S3, MySites

Devices: any! (use API, encourage 3rd party)

Focus on what you’re really awesome at.

Create the one thing you can do better.

Example: MySites

Identified a new need: open, scalable storage.

Logins: Facebook Connect

Visibility: Facebook, Twitter

Storage: MySites

Devices: any! (use API, encourage 3rd party)

Opening: deliver our storage to partners (Dazzboard, Xiha)

Focus on creating a scalable cloud storage offering.

Removed all the extra.
