Fluids and Motion

Based on Bernoulli’s Principal:

Pressure in a fluid decreases as the fluid’s velocity increases.

Lift: Upward force on object in fluid

Thrust: Pushing force exerted by engine

Drag: Opposes motion of airplane (friction)

Small Wing = Less lift / need large thrust

Large wing: More lift / need less thrust

Air travels fast over top of wing and slower over bottom of wing

Slow fluid: high pressure

Fast Fluid: Low Pressure

Fluids flow from high to low pressure causing the wing to lift
