The Effect Of Surface On Basketball Bounce

But if we talk about the beginners, they normally are unable to dribble the ball in different surface and that prevents

them to make a good shot.

The different surface type presents different rules for game. Some presents stability and some game control and some

presents both.

Some surfaces give the players a great performance, some give enough safety, and some others give both performance

and safety.

Let's know some important factors of surface bounce

Surface traction :-

Basketball is a game of traction. Some of the new court options like synthetic delivers a better traction to players.

Outdoor concrete, asphalt and indoor hardwood gives a better traction when you maintain it properly.

But if you are using multipurpose court or wood or tile, it should be maintained properly. Otherwise it can cause slip

and slick while playing.

Player's injuries:-

Playing in harder surface gives better bounce to the players. But within a certain period, a player can easily get jumper's

knee injury.

If you choose a surface with higher traction then it also lead to injuries like ankle sprain, knee sprain, turf toe etc.

So make sure to choose a surface that will give a better performance with greater safety.

Safety and basketball shoes

The right basketball shoes selection can prevent you from any grip related injuries while playing.

When shoes is worn out it can cause strain on ankle and knees---that increases injury risk

The different surface types and the effect on ball bounce--

Hardwood surface :-

Hardwood surface delivers an impactfull games rather than any other surfaces as per NBA.

The best surface where the ball dribbles and bounces properly but when it's not maintained, the ball bounce dies.

If the court has dead spots due to water damage, it causes low bounce or dead bounce that can be challenging if you

are playing in a competitive game.

Most of the outdoor basketball courts are made of asphalt or concrete.

Asphalt And Cement Courts

They deliver a good dribble when they are new but as they get damaged due to regular wear and tear, the surface

slows down the dribble rate.

To prevent the surface from early damage, make it painted and sealed to withstand sun's UV rays.

Multipurpose Courts :

Multipurpose court is a less expensive court option that is made of tiled plastic material or a hard rubber

surfaces.

The newly constructed court offers a good dribble and ball bounce but if not maintained time to time, it starts loosing

the effect on ball.

Similar to wood flooring, this surface also develops dead spots and that leads to dead bounce.

Professional players always check every surface individually to see how well the basketball

bounces before playing.

Basketball bounce is different in every surface types but when you face challenge in one particular surface, then you

can adjust the air amount to check if it's working.

Tips : - As per NBA, you should use leather ball for indoor basketball

courts and composite or synthetic leather balls for outdoors.

As per practice needs or for beginner use, a rubber basketball is the best option.
