• Target Population: All Interested Citizens of Johnson County

• Target Problem: Access to Inexpensive Outdoor Physical Activities for Citizens of Johnson County, Tennessee

• Community Partners: Mayor Kevin Parsons and the Town of Mountain City, TN

• Sponsors: East Tennessee State University Department of Rural and Community Health, and the Department of Family Medicine Rural Programs Faculty

Project Background

• Aaron Tolan’s contact with Mayor Kevin Parsons

• Mayor had interest in building a disc golf course, but lacked knowledge of the game

• Perfect opportunity for a community project

• Ordering supplies: baskets & signs

AccomplishmentsWe successfully helped the Town of Mountain City

design and construction of a beginner friendly disc golf course.

We organized and promoted a grand opening celebration.

We encouraged Mountain City locals to play the sport by giving away discs to interested attendees.

We encouraged citizens to participate in activities enriching their lives through exposure to the outdoors.

We provided another source of inexpensive entertainment and activity for citizens of Mountain City, TN.
