Introduction

• Hola! Welcome to the Magical World of European capitals and mountains of the world. We (Danica and Emma)chose this topic because we thought it would be a great way to learn more about the topics we studied briefly for jeopardy. We hope you enjoy!!!!

Mountains

• Mountains are some of the most beautiful things that mother nature created. They give us a great place to rock climb, hike and much more. They prove our Earth’s history and give geologists great places to study. Many have beautiful scenery such as waterfalls or great views of lakes.

Mt Everest

• It is the tallest mountain in the world (5 ½ mi.)• Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the

first men to climb the mountain in 1953.• It is also known as Sagarmatha (सगरमा�था�) and

means head of the sky.• An estimated 120 corpses are still on the

mountain• Located on the border of China and Nepal

Mt. McKinley (aka Denali)

• The largest mountain in North America located in Alaska (20,320 ft.)

• There are 2 summits. The north summit is 19,470 ft and the south summit is 20,320 ft.

• The first person to climb the mountain was Judge James Wickersham in 1903.

Mount Kilimanjaro

• Largest mountain in Africa at 19,340 ft.• Located in north-western Tanzania.• Mt Kilimanjaro has three volcanoes: Kibo,

Mawenzi, and Shira. Shira is a dormant volcano but still has magma in it’s base.

• There are several trails leading up to the top : Marangu, Rongai, Lemosho, Shira, Umbwe and Machame.

K2

• The 2nd tallest mountain in the world located in Pakistan.

• It is 28,251 ft tall

Aconcagua

• The Tallest mountain in South America (22,841 ft)

• Located in Argentina in the Andes mountain range.

• The youngest person to reach the summit is 11 yrs old

• It is the tallest mountain out of the Americas

Mt. Kosciuszko

• The tallest mountain in Australia (7,310 ft)• There is a chairlift ride that reaches close to

the summit.• Its not very difficult to climb
