GOLF HOLE ANATOMY

Grass on a golf course is kept at three different lengths.

The names of the grass are:

Fairway

Rough

Green

FAIRWAY

• The fairway is the short grass that runs up the middle of every hole.

• It is named the fairway because it is thought to be the most fair path to the hole.

ROUGH

• Rough is grass that is kept at a much longer length than the fairway. The rough runs on both the left and right side of the fairway.

• The reason it is named the rough is because you will have a rough time on the hole if you hit it in the rough.

GREEN

• The green is the shortest grass on the golf course.

• The hole is located on the green.

• The reason the grass is the shortest on the green is because you use a club that helps you roll the ball along the ground and into the hole.
