The Holy Spirit’s Work

Convicts us of our sin and unbelief.

When he comes, he will prove the world to be in

the wrong about sin; about sin, because

people do not believe in me. Jn.8:8-9

Convinces us of holiness of Christ,

our sinless sacrifice.

When he comes, he will prove the world to be in

the wrong about … righteousness. About

righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer Jn. 8:8, 10

Convicts us of the judgment of Satan and the world yet

to come.

When he comes, he will prove the world to be in

the wrong about …judgment: about

judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. Jn.

8:8,11

Grants New Life

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient,

deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one

another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God

our Savior appeared,

5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his

mercy. He saved us through the washing of

rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he

poured out on us generously through Jesus

Christ our Savior, (Titus 3:3-6)

Baptism of the Holy Spirit into the

Body of Christ

For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to

form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave

or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to

drink. 1 Cor. 12:13

Lives in believers

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s

temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your

midst?1 Cor. 3:16

Inspires holyliving and delivers us from the power

of sin.

1 Corinthians 10:13 “… the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is

faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up

against it. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you will not give into

it”

2 Thessalonians 3:3 “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and

protect you from the evil one” (NIV)

James 4:7 promises, “Surrender to God!

Resist the devil, and he will run from you.”

Gives spiritualgifts.

1 Cor. 12:4 There are different kinds of

spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source

of them all.

6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of

us.

Produces Moral character

The Fruit of the Spiritthe fruit of the Spirit is

love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Gal 5:22-23

Assures us of our salvation

When you believed, you were marked in him with a

seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit

guaranteeing our inheritance until the

redemption of those who are God’s possession

Ephe. 1:13-14

Rom. 8:16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s

children.

Guides us into truth

When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the

truth. John 16:13

Reveals Jesus.

John 16:14 14 He will glorify me because it is

from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.

Comforts us.

Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will

send him to you. Jhn16:7-8

Intercedes for us.

Rom 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought

to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless

groans.

Enables us to worship

John 4:23-24 Yet a time is coming and has now come

when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the

kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in

spirit and in truth."

Gives power for service through

his filling.

"He, the Holy Spirit gave gifts to people... to

prepare all God's people for the work of Christian service in order to build up the body of Christ" Ephesians 4.11-12.

Gives boldness for witness.

Acts 1:8 Jesus said, "When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with

power, and you will be witnesses for me.

Acts 4.31b, "They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and

began to proclaim God's message with boldness."

We are instructed to:

Be led by the Spirit.

Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of

God are children of God.

Walk in the Spirit

Gal. 5:16 So I say, walkby the Spirit, and you

will not gratify thedesires of the flesh.

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no

condemnation to them which are in Christ

Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after

the Spirit

Keep on being filled with the

Spirit.

Eph. 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with

the Spirit…

Learn from the Spirit

1 Cor. 2:12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.

Use our spiritual gifts for the good

of the Body of Christ.

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the

evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of

service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…
