How to Wait Upon the Lord For Your Breakthrough

DESCRIPTION

Good things come to those who wait on the Lord! Isaiah 40, verse 31 says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31. The Bible tells us there is something about “waiting on the Lord” that does not sap you of energy, it is actually life-giving and renewing! God wants us to start doing some “wait training.” Psalm 40, verse 1 and 2 says… “I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.” [Psalm 40:1-2] What you just read – Psalm 40 - impacted the iconic rock group, U2, and their lead singer, Bono so much, he wrote a song that uses the words from Psalm 40, and song is called, “40”. It was a hit in Germany, but not released in the USA. If you’ve been to a U2 concert, many times it's the last song they play in the concert as they all walk off stage, one by one, until all that’s left is the drummer and the crowd singing the chorus. It is a very moving experience. The word “inclined” reminds me of that famous line in Pirates of the Carribean – the Curse of the Black Pearl – where Barbosa says: "I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request…. Means 'no'". So, here in Psalm 40, it says, “HE INCLINED!” That means… YES! “I waited patiently for the Lord, and He inclined – he said yes to me – God wasn’t disinclined to acquiesce to my request - he was inclined to acquiesce to my request - God heard my cry! He brought me up out of a horrible pit. Is there anybody out there - besides me today - who could use being brought up out of a horrible pit? If you wait on the Lord, he is INCLINED to say YES to your RESCUE! That's what the slide presentation is all about.

How to Wait Upon the Lord

for your Breakthrough

Pastor Lee McFarlandPastor Lee McFarland

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their

strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles…

Isa. 40:31

“…they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint.”

Isa. 40:31

HOW TO DO“WAIT

TRAINING”

1. If I wait courageously, God will strengthen me.

“Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and he shall

strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”

Psalm 27:14

2. If I wait patiently God will rescue me.

“I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to

me, and heard my cry…”Psalm 40:1-

2

“… He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of miry clay, and set my feet

upon a rock, and established my steps.”

Psalm 40:1-2

3. If I wait Silently, God will defend me.

“Truly my soul wait for God; from Him comes my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be

greatly moved.”

Psalm 62:1-2 (NKJV)

4. If I wait full of Hope and Expectation, God will be good to me.

“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him…”

Lamentations 3:25-26

“… It is good that one should hope and wait

quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

Lamentations 3:25-26

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I WAIT

ON THE LORD?

1. A BIGGER answer to my prayer.

The waiting: “Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus…”

John 11:5-6

“…So when he heard that Lazarus was sick,

he stayed where he was two more days.””

John 11:5-6

The BIGGER miracle: “When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come

out!’ The dead man came out…

John 11:43-44

“…his hands and feet wrapped with strips of

linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to

them, ‘Take off the grave clothes and let him go.’”

John 11:43-44

2. A SUDDEN answer to my prayer.

The waiting: “The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph;

he forgot him…”

Genesis 40:23

“…When two full years had passed, Pharaoh

had a dream…”

Genesis 41:1

A SUDDEN miracle: “So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was QUICKLY brought from

the dungeon...” Genesis 41:14

“… When he had shaved and changed his clothes,

he came before Pharaoh...”

Genesis 41:14

3. An ACCELERATED

answer to my prayer.

The waiting: “When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him,

‘They have no wine…” John 2:3-4

“… And Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has

not yet come.’” John 2:3-4

An ACCELERATED miracle:

“When the master of the feast tasted the water

now become wine...” John 2:9a-10

“...he said to him, ‘Every serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then

the poor wine…” John 2:9a-10

“… But you have kept the good wine until now.”

John 2:9a-10

WHEN WE TRY TO ACCELERATE –

THEN GOD WAITS.

WHEN WE WAIT – THEN GOD

ACCELERATES.
