TEN PARTSPart 6
PART SIX:THE ACT
(OF OBEDIENCE):BAPTISM
The five accounts of the Great
Commission are in:Matthew 28;
Mark 16;Luke 24;John 20;Acts 1.
Here is a summary of the first five points:
1 The authority behind it: Jesus Christ.
2 The obligation:Go.
3 The place:All the world and everyone in it.
4 The method:Teach.
5 The message:Hear, believe, repent, confess
Christ, and be baptized..
Let us askand
answer six questions.
What is the baptism of the Great
Commission?
On the negative side, the baptism of the Great Commission is not:
Holy Spirit baptism
Examples of Holy Spirit baptism are limited to the apostles & 1st gentile
converts
John 14-16; Acts 1,2,10:44-48 Baptism in fire
Matthew 3:10-12 indicates this is punishment
An improper “mode” (such as sprinkling or pouring). On the positive side, the
baptism of the Great Commission is:
Immersion in water.
John’s baptism is no longer in effect.
Acts 19:1-6
“Immersion” baptizo to make whelmed
(that is, fully wet); used only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial
ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of
Christian baptism: (Strongs)
Acts 8:36-39NET Now as they were going along the road, they came to some water, and the eunuch
said, "Look, there is water! What is to stop me from being
baptized?" 37 (TEXT OMITTED) 38 So he
ordered the chariot to stop, and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. 39 Now when they came up out of the water, the
Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away…
Ephesians 5:26 NET to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of
the water by the word, All commentators of repute
in all bodies refer this to baptism. All in the church
pass through
the waters of baptism. But the washing of the water would be of no
avail without the word. The power is in the word of
the Lord which offers the gospel and commands baptism. (PNT)
The one baptismEphesians 4:5 NET one Lord, one faith, one baptism, A burial
Colossians 2:12 NET Having been buried with him in
baptism, you also have
been raised with him through your faith in the power of God who raised
him from the dead.Who should be baptized?
Baptism is for those
who have been taught.Matthew 28:19 MKJV
Therefore go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Baptism is for those who believe Acts

Corinthians who heard about
it believed and were baptized. Mark 16:16 NET The one who believes and is
baptized will be saved, but the one who does not
believe will be condemned.
Baptism is for those who are guilty of sin Acts 2:38 NET Peter said to them, "Repent, and
each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for
the forgiveness of your
sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit.
Baptism is for those who are penitent (have repented).

in not in the majority of the manuscripts.) Baptism is for men and women. Acts 8:12
NET But when they believed Philip as he
was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they began to be baptized, both men
and women.Baptism is not for infants – for they do not meet
(nor can they meet) any of the above criteria.

become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will certainly also be united in the likeness of
his resurrection.
Matthew 3:16 NET After Jesus was baptized …he was coming
up out of the water... Acts 8:39

For the remission of sins.

souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load
is not hard to carry."
I need His blood.Hebrews 7:27 NET He has no need to
do every day what those priests do, to offer sacrifices first for their own sins and

people, since he did this in offering himself once for all. Hebrews 9:22 NET Indeed
according to the law almost everything was purified
with blood, and without the
shedding of blood there is no forgiveness..26 ..But now he has appeared once for all at
the consummation of the ages to put away sin by his
sacrifice. 27 And just as
people are appointed to die once, and then to face judgment, 28 so
also, after Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, to those
who eagerly await him he will appear
a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation. John 1:29 NET On the next day

cannot see the kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus said to him,
"How can a
man be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother's womb and be

In light of the fact that baptism is mentioned so
often in the New Testament, and in light of the fact that
the above questions are definitely
answered in the New Testament, and in light of the
fact that almost no one teaches these things, the
emphasis on this subject is entirely appropriate.
If you have never studied this subject, or if you have never obeyed this commandment,
please take the time immediately to attend to it.
Remember,it was Jesus
Who made it partof the Great Commission.
