• How can anyone be happy and mourn or even be comforted because of it?
• We seem to put off mourning and weeping as far away as possible.
• Notice the truths in Ecclesiastes 3:4
• Remember blessed means extremely happy.
• Let’s try first to learn why Jesus pronounces this blessing. “Blessed are they that mourn”
There Is Wrongful Mourning!There Is Wrongful Mourning!
• Everyone feels mourning & bitterness of sorrow.
• Some mourning is useless because there is no comfort! Isaiah 16:7
• 1 Thes. 4:13 is a beautiful scripture for some, and not for others.
• Now we see why Jesus says, blessed are they who mourn, because they have hope, they have comfort! – Those who mourn without this hope, have no
comfort!
Proper MourningProper Mourning
• In the text Jesus is telling us of mourning, of a sorrowfulness over our sins.
• We need also to mourn over our own spiritual condition because of what our sin does! Is. 53:5
• Two attitudes toward sin. 2 Cor. 7:10; Mt. 27:3-5
• We should mourn over our sins. Is. 59:1-2– When we are separated from God (or feel far
from Him), we should recognize who moved (who left)! Heb. 13:5

• This mourning leads to desire to change my attitudes and my actions. Ps. 34:18
• God dwells with the penetent. Is 57:15;Joel 2:13

• We have comfort because our sins have been blotted out! Acts 3:19; Ps. 32:2
• We’ve got to humble ourselves on a daily basis! James 4:9-10
• We must pray fervently! Phil. 4:6-7
• God will give us comfort. 2 Cor. 1:3-4
• This comfort (Mt. 5:4) is the same word used for what the Holy Spirit would give us in John 14:16, 26
