Generator Assessment Testing & Evaluation The generator is routinely overlooked when developing an operation and maintenance program and is generally relegated to the electrical group in the plant and viewed by the mechanical engineers as the "black box." As generator fleets grow more mature, the potential for availability limiting events caused by the generator increase, but if an operational and maintenance program is developed early on to coincide with the outage windows of the other plant equipment, the surprises can be minimized and the availability requirements managed.
RTS has designed a series of Generator Assessment Testing Evaluation Programs (GATE) that are designed to be performed during scheduled turbine outages, so that the critical path is not affected.

Off-Line Inspection, Tests & Examinations
If any of the afore-mentioned tests produce negative results, a thorough visual inspection is imperative. In other instances, a visual inspection will produce results, which indicate further testing. A visual inspection is quite inexpensive, while being extremely telling about the condition of your generator.
