The wonder cityAtlantis

Atlantis:-A legendary island sometimes referred to as the 'lost city of Atlantis' that was said to exist some 11,000 years ago. The Greek philosopher Plato mentioned Atlantis in some of his works and today it remains one of the most sought after 'lost cities' in history.

Location:-The exact location of Atlantis is a topic of considerable debate. Plato described it as being 'in front of the Pillars of Hercules' in reference to the rock of Gibralter and North Africa. Expeditions and research intended to uncover the true location have taken academics and scholars all over the world from Greece to the United States and to even more unlikely locations such as Antarctica. While several claims of its discovery have been put forward none of them have been satisfactorily confirmed, at this time the site of Atlantis remains undiscovered.

Legend:-The original story of Atlantis is long and diverse but it is said that Poseidon, God of the Sea, created the island for his love, a mortal woman named Cleito. On the top of the hill in the centre of the island a great temple was constructed to honour Poseidon as well as a large golden statue of him riding a Chariot pulled by winged horses. The combined size of the Continent on which Atlantis became situated was particularly vast and a great number of people came to live and work there. For many centuries the Atlanta's lived out there lives with peace a

and dignity, fulfilling their daily chores with contentment and determination. However, before too long greed and power began to overwhelm many of them and Zeus decided to punish Atlantis. Soon afterwards the entire Continent was lost under the ocean.

An advanced culture:-Some stories and theories suggest that Atlantis was a highly advanced civilization that in some accounts was said to possess spacefaring technologies in advance to those of the modern day. Some believe the Atlanta's did not perish beneath the sea but instead blasted off in to space while some believe they could have originally reached Earth from another planet.

A Japanese construction company is planning to build underwater complexes that corkscrew in to the ocean:-

Shimizu Inc. is pursuing a rather unique solution to the planet's overpopulation problems by designing a new type of habitation that will enable people to live within the depths of the sea.

Consisting of a large globe that can either float on the surface or submerge underwater, each complex could house a mixture of commercial buildings, hotels and residential homes. A special corkscrew shaped structure underneath would keep it stable in the water and make it possible for it to sink to avoid bad weather.

"The company and many other organizations have spent two years designing the project, working with technologies we think will be plausible in the future," said a spokesman.

Some of the these technologies include using microorganisms to convert carbon dioxide in to oxygen and a system to generate energy from differences in water temperature.

The construction of a single 'Ocean Spiral' is expected to cost up to 3 trillion Yen. ( $36 billion )
