Smoking stinks Cigarette smoke sticks to your clothes,

hair and makes your breath smell horrible. Kids and adults who smoke often don’t realise how bad they smell to other people.

What’s in a cigarette? There are approximately 600 ingredients

in a cigarette. When burned, they create more than 7,000 chemicals.

You may think a cigarette is just tobacco wrapped in paper, but it’s much more than that. When a cigarette burns it releases a dangerous cocktail of over 5,000 different chemicals. Many of these chemicals are poisonous and more than 70 may cause cancer.

Did you know that… Over 78% of adults who smoke have tried

to stop at some point? Smoking damages your lungs which

makes it harder for you to run and play sport with your friends. It also makes you more likely to catch coughs and colds or suffer with asthma?

How many people try to quit smoking

About 69% of smokers want to quit completely

The best way for smokers to reduce their risk of cancer, and improve their overall health, is to stop smoking completely.

Where you are not allowed to smoke

You are not allowed to smoke near electronic devices in public.

You are also not allowed to smoke in airplanes and at the airport.

You are also not allowed in some cafes and restaurants.

Another place that you are not allowed to smoke is in hospitals.

Believe it or not, kids and adults have to pay a lot of money to smoke. In fact smoking 20 cigarettes a day for 5 years costs £8000. Imagine what you could buy with that!

SMOKING MAKES… Your hair turn grey faster Smoking reduces the amount of oxygen

that gets to your skin. This means that if you smoke, your skin ages more quickly and looks grey.

Which cancers are caused by smoking?
