- 11. Medical Status Examination or MSE This is used by the
clinician to evaluate if there is an urgent requisite to apply
psychiatric intervention. A mental health professional initially
use his social skills, clinical experiences, eyes and ears to
assess the persons state and level of impairment.

the person dress himself, eye contact, tone of voice, judgment,
orientation and thinking pattern. Professionals perform this to
conclude if the person is having suicidal, homicidal or
psychosis.

shares his or her medical history which the mental health
professional requires to be able to meet the persons medication
needs. Whoever signs the consent is given the permission to make
decisions on the persons behalf.
- 14. Assessment Phase Here is where the clinician evaluates the
reason why the person is seeking mental health help. Questions will
be given to the person, this includes family, abuse, trauma and
social histories. The person will also be asked about his
relationships, substance abuse or dependence, medications, criminal
history etc.
- 15. The Treatment Plan This last phase of the assessment is
where the professional and the person draft a course of action,
select the treatment needed and layout the goals and expectations
during the course of the therapy sessions
