The cause of lupus is unknown, butit has been proven that there is a direct relationship between genes

and early enviromental exposure torisk factors increasing the chance of

the disease’s development.

Lupus is an autoimmune diseasethat can damage any part of your

body.

Lupus is the Latin world for “wolf” and it is common medical lore that the butterfly rash seen on the cheek of many lupus patients is

so similar to the facial markings of a wolf.

Types of Lupus:

• Systemic lupus erythematosus

• Cutaneous lupus erythematosus

• Drug-induced lupus

• Neonatal lupus

Cutaneous lupus erythematosus:

• Apresoline( used to treat high blood preassureor hyperthension)

• Procainamie(used to treat irregular heartrhythms)

• Nydrazid(used to treat tuberculosis)

Symptoms disappear within six months after thesemedications are stopped.

• Skin rash

• Liver problems

• Low blood cells counts

These symptoms may dissapear completely afterseveral months with no lasting effects.

• Prevent flares and treat them when theyoccur.

• Control symptoms like joint pain and fatigue.

• Minimize damage to organs.

• Protecting against damaging effects of sunlight.

• Improving skin lesions.

Be sun smart:

•Use a sunblock with SPF greaterthan 30.•Use an appropiate clothing.•Schedule your outdoor activitiesto before 10 a.m and after 4 p.m.
