For many years, meat eaters and the meat industry as a whole have argued fervently that the vegan diet does not contain enough protein. However, this is simply not true. Many people argue that eating animal products is the only way to get enough dietary protein. In actuality, countless plant-based products contain more than enough protein. In foods such as beans, spinach, and broccoli, as many as 40% of the calories in the food come directly from protein. Nuts, legumes, and meat substitutes like tofu also contain high amounts of protein.

Recently, research has shown that overconsumption of animal protein may actually have negative health consequences. Animal protein tends to exert an acidic effect on the blood, which leeches minerals such as calcium from the bones. Moreover, it is worth noting that the countries with the highest incidence of hip fractures are also the countries that consume the most milk.
