Image Production

Scatter Radiation: radiation produced from x-ray photon interactions with matter in such a way that the resulting photons have continued in a different direction.

Source-to-Image Distance (SID): the distance between the source of the x-rays (usually the focal spot of the x-ray tube) and the image receptor .

Umbra:true edge of an object as imaged radiographically.

Window Level: image manipulation parameter that changes image brightness on the display monitor, usually through the use of a mouse or trackball .

Window Width: image manipulation parameter that changes image contrast on the display monitor, usually through the use of a mouse or trackball

What is radiographic imaging

•How was the first encounter with x-ray•Image receptor: what was the first image receptor used•Image formation: How did the first image form ( types of interactions)•Image quality: how was the image quality•Image quality factors: what factors controlled the image quality

first encounter with x-ray

first radiographic image was seen on barium platinocyanide covered screen.

Then he used a large photographic film to document it

Components of a conventional image

Our eyes sees dots, & our brain sees an Image

What do you see

The basic element of an image is a dot

•Continues dots = a line•Small dots = high resolution •Large dots = Low resolution •Scattered dots = low density, low blackness, low opacity ( high lucency)•Close dots = High density, Greater blackness, High opacity ( low lucency)

Are dots Beautiful

In digital imaging the basic element of an image is a Pixel
