ScanGrants: Reaching out to Researchers in the Health

Sciences

• Program Description: ScanGrants is a Web-based listing of grant, scholarship and other funding types in the health sciences. ScanGrants is an example of how librarians and others can employ free Web 2.0 tools such as those of FeedBurner and Google Analytics to create free services for clients.

• Program Objective: To create a free, web-based listing of grants and other funding types that would enable potential researchers (novice and experienced), public health workers and community public health advocates to garner funding for their projects.

• Setting: The Northwest Oregon-based health network, Samaritan Health Services. Specifically, a service of its Center for Health Research and Quality.

Greater good served…

ScanGrants is a free web-based grants and scholarship listing service. Many researchers, nonprofit and public health department staff lack access to the expensive proprietary funding databases that their counterparts in academic settings enjoy. ScanGrants is accessible to anyone with a Web connection.
