HOW NERVE CELLS WORK

Is the basic unit in the nervous system.

It is a specialized cell with many fibers extending from it and reaching muscles and organs throughout the body.

These fibers are like telephone wires through which messages are sent and received.

Nerve Cell/ Neuron

1. CELL BODY/SOMA

2. DENDRITE - receives messages and carry them to the cell body.

3. AXON – a thick fiber that transmits message away from the cell body to the next link in the nerve cell network.
