The hardest thing for ADHD students are staying focused and
staying on task.
Teachers can help minimize these areas by
teaching survival strategies in the
classroom. Seat children where distractions are minimized• Center constructive criticism between compliments• Find opportunities to allow hyperactive children to use
their energy• Have a child look directly at your eyes when speaking
to them• Keep directions short and simple
Teaching life skills • Getting students to
think about the “What Ifs”
• Students could write what this looks like to them and how they would feel.
Visualize What Goes On In A ADHD
Person
• ADHD people some times feel like their minds are like televisions that have an uncontrollable channel changer.
• ADHD people cannot filter out certain distractions and may loose main focus on the task at hand.
• Distractions come in the form of sights, sounds, and thoughts that flood the brain.
• All these distractions are competing with each other.
Hyper Focus• ADHD people can
also exhibit a form of ordinary concentration which enables them to hyper-focus.
• This is where they become focused on one thing for a very long period of time.
• This creates students to write about the same thought continuously or multiple amounts of times in the same paragraph.
